Family Faith Formation Night! In lieu of weekly catechism classes throughout the entire year, Our Lady of Lourdes is proud to offer six nights of formation for the family, both parents and children, as a means of sacramental preparation for children in 1st–8th grades.
Family Faith Formation
Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
The end goal of family faith formation is to foster a passion for the faith, and prepare children for their First Confession, Confirmation and Holy Communion. Why six sessions rather than the normal weekly religious education? We believe that sometimes less is more: we want to present quality, relevant and substantive truths of the Catholic Faith to our families and children in a context of food and hospitality, rather than bringing them through a weekly program where it can seem merely like a process of jumping through hoops to receive the sacraments. And why parents, too? Because growth in faith is a family affair, and we aim to see our parents’ experience and renewal at the same time as their children!
All children in grades 1–8 and parents of participating children are invited to Family Faith Formation Night at Our Lady of Lourdes School, 2298 S. Logan St., Denver, CO 80210.
Attendance of children and their parents will be taken every class (in the art room, during dinner).
All parents and children will eat dinner together in the art room. Children will go to their designated classrooms according to their grade (1st–2nd, 3rd–5th, 6th–8th), immediately following dinner. Adults will remain in the art room. Guidance will be available!
Our teachers are volunteer parishioners who are passionate about the faith and child formation.
Either Fr. Brian Larkin or John O’Brien will be teaching the adult class.
Class will take place 5:45–7:30 PM (Dinner in the art room – 5:45–6:15 PM).
Classes will be held in multiple classrooms (6:15–7:30 PM).

Third grade children will receive Confirmation & Holy Communion at a special Mass (spring 2019–date TBD).
Fourth–eighth grade children whom have not yet received the above sacraments will be able to do so along with the 2nd and 3rd graders.
What if only one parent is able to attend?
While we encourage both parents attend, it is fine if only one parent is able to come.
If my child has already received sacraments, are we still able to attend?
Yes! If your child is in grade 1st–8th, you are welcome to attend. Attendance is encouraged, but not enforced unless your child is planning on receiving a sacrament(s) in 2019.
Am I able to miss a class?
If your child is planning to receive the sacrament of Confession, Confirmation or Holy Communion in spring 2019, either a parent or child is able to miss up to one class. If either a parent or child misses more than one class, the person(s) who miss the class is required to schedule a meeting with John O’Brien to cover what is missed.
Who do I contact if I/my child is unable to attend a particular night of class?
If it is the first class you/your child is missing, there is no need to contact anyone. If it is a second or third class missed, please contact: John O’Brien at firstname.lastname@example.org John will respond with next steps in planning a time to meet to review materials missed.
Why are parents required to attend?
Because growth in faith is a family affair, and we aim to see our parents’ experience and renewal at the same time as their children!
Do I need to bring anything?
No need to bring anything! Food and materials will be provided for every class. We only ask that you pay a $40 registration fee (per family), and bring in the form of cash or check to the first night of class.
What if we are unable to attend dinner, but can arrive at the time class begins?
While we suggest participation in the family dinner, this is fine.
