Fr. Dirk Dunfee, SJ
The pastor is responsible for every aspect of parish life. With the help of our second-to-none staff, the pastor guides and shepherds the parish and helps to form the People of God as Catholic Christians.
Father Dirk Dunfee, S.J. grew up in Southern California, although he is a mediocre swimmer and never learned to surf. He studied philosophy at Claremont McKenna College, graduating in 1978. After a few years with a now-defunct national bank in Los Angeles, Fr. Dirk and his best friend went to law school. In 1984, Fr. Dirk graduated from the School of Law at Duke University. While at Duke, Fr. Dirk became a Roman Catholic. He practiced law for a few years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He no longer practices law, but has retained his license nonetheless. In August, 1987, he entered the Society of Jesus. His initial studies as a Jesuit took place in Denver, and he spent two years in Zimbabwe, Africa, teaching at a regional seminary. Ordained to the priesthood in 1997, he served at two Jesuit parishes in Missouri: St. Matthew the Apostle in St. Louis, and St. Francis Xavier in Kansas City. He returned to school in 2005, graduating from Oregon Health & Science University’s Family Nurse Practitioner program in Portland. He was blessed to provide health care to the uninsured and underinsured at Family Health Care in Kansas City, Kansas, specializing in HIV and Hepatitis C. In early 2014 he was reassigned to Regis University in Denver and began helping out at Loyola Parish. He became full time at the parish in April 2018. In May 2018 he became the pastor, and is honored and blessed to be so.
