Dear Loyola Parishioners and Visitors,
I want to thank the Mardi Gras Committee for another outstanding parish fundraising event last Saturday. The food was plentiful and good. Ms. Sims famous Mardi Gras punch was available. And folks seemed to genuinely enjoy the time for socializing, dancing and conversing. To my surprise, I stayed to the end! I was taught by an older Jesuit that when the dancing begins at a reception, that is our cue to exit…and I generally follow that guidance.
I want to congratulate the Court. They really dressed for the part and seemed well rehearsed for their presentation.
While Officer Chris is not a part of our parish, he has been the security presence for the Mardi Gras party the last few years and comes across as a genuinely nice guy. Easy going. Although his career has regularly brought him in to conflictual situations, he is a person who really does not like conflict.
I don’t know what else to say other than I am grateful for all the hard work Mary Sims and the Mardi Gras Committee put into last Saturday night’s celebration. They gave so we could receive.
For those who have entered Mardi Gras celebrations this weekend and/or will enter them over the next couple days, I remind you Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday. All are invited to receive Ashes either at the 7:00 AM Mass or 6:00 PM Mass. The celebrants will probably distribute Ashes immediately after Mass as well if you come a little late or just want to receive Ashes but not celebrate Mass.
Turn away from sin, and embrace the Gospel.
